Abstract Introduction: The present study aimed to develop and validate a scale for assessing childhood sleep problems. Methods: This research employed a descriptive-survey design. The statistical population included all children and their families in Kermanshah, Iran, during the second half of 1403 (Solar Hijri calendar). A sample of 350 children was selected using a multi-stage cluster random sampling method. Data analysis was ultimately conducted on 302 valid questionnaires. Results: The reliability of the questionnaire was calculated using Cronbach's alpha coefficient and the split-half method, yielding a coefficient of 0.92. The test-retest reliability was also examined, showing high reliability (ICC = 0.94). Exploratory factor analysis identified 11 main factors, and first- and second-order confirmatory factor analyses demonstrated a good model fit with the data. The convergent and discriminant validity of the questionnaire were confirmed. Criterion validity (concurrent and predictive) was also calculated, and the results indicated adequate concurrent and predictive validity. Furthermore, a cut-off score was determined for each component. Conclusion: This scale is a valid and reliable instrument that can be used by psychologists, counselors, educational institutions and kindergartens, parent-child counseling centers, research centers, and universities for the diagnosis and assessment of sleep problems in children.
