Abstract
Introduction: The purpose of the present study was to compare the effectiveness of schema therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy on improving emotion regulation strategies of depressed bereaved patients
Method: The present study was a semi-experimental study with a pre-test-post-test design and follow-up with a control group. The statistical population included depressed patients with bereavement experience who referred to the Toos treatment and rehabilitation center in Mashhad in 2022, after screening and initial diagnosis, 45 people were selected by purposeful sampling and randomly divided into three groups of 15 people, including two An experimental and a control group were assigned. The purpose of data collection was emotional regulation questionnaire (ERQ). The first experimental group received schema therapy (8 sessions of 90 minutes) and the second experimental group received treatment based on acceptance and commitment (8 sessions of 90 minutes) once a week. The data were analyzed using variance analysis of repeated measurements and Ben Feroni post hoc test.
Results: The results showed that in both experimental groups, the averages of cognitive reappraisal (P<0.001, F=206.26, etha square=0.98) and suppression (P<0.001, F=116.28, etha square=0.97) increased from pre-test to post-test and to follow-up and this effect was greater in the acceptance and commitment treatment group.
Conclusion: In general, the results show that both of these treatment methods can improve the emotional regulation of patients and play an important role in the treatment of bereavement
