Introduction: The obsessive-compulsive disorder has high prevalence in the world in recent decades, and it is imperative identifying effective psychological factors in diagnosis and treatment of the disorder. Therefore, the present study aimed the comparing early maladaptive schemas and childhood trauma in individuals with obsessive-compulsive disorder and normal individuals.
Method: The research method was causal-comparative. The statistical population included all individuals with obsessive-compulsive disorde referring to Tehran's psychological centers and healthy individuals, during the first half of year 2024. Among them, 120 people selected by available sampling method and they answered the questionnaires of Young Schema Questionnaire - Short Form and Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ). Data were analyzed using t-tests and variance analysis (MANOVA) by SPSS19 software.
Results: The findings showed that there was a significant difference between early maladaptive schemas (except for abandonment/instability and emotional inhibition schemas) and childhood trauma between individuals with obsessive-compulsive disorder and normal individuals (P<0.05).
Conclusion: It seems that early maladaptive schemas and childhood trauma are factors that may affect the symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder. Therefore, in the therapy of obsessive-compulsive disorder, focusing on early maladaptive schemas and childhood trauma can help control the symptoms of the disorder.
