Background:The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of dialectical behavior therapy on rumination and perceived burden in adolescents with a history of suicide attempts.
Method:The research method was a semi-experimental pre-test-post-test with a control group. The statistical population of the study consisted of all female students with a history of suicide attempts in the second year of high school in Ardabil in the academic year 2025-2026, from which 30 students were selected as samples using purposive sampling and were randomly assigned to the experimental group (15 people) and the control group (15 people). The experimental group received 12 sessions 60 minutes of Linehan's dialectical behavior therapy (2020), and the control group continued with their normal routine. The Nolen-Hoeksema and Morrow rumination scale (1991) and the Van Orden et al. (2012) perception of burden scale were used to collect data. The data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance.
Results:The findings showed that there was a significant difference between the mean Reflection(P≥0.001, F=13.80), Brooding(P<0.001, F=17.39), Depression(P<0.001, F=21.22), Belongingness(P<0.01, F=8.53), and Perceived Burden (P<0.01, F=9.64) of the experimental and control groups in the post-test.
Conclusion:Therefore, dialectical behavior therapy can reduce rumination and perceived burden by restructuring thoughts and changing negative thoughts.
